Butler Lands Three On All-PFL Team

Three Butler football players have been named to the 2007 All-Pioneer Football League Team, selected by league head coaches and released by the league office on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Earning second team all-league recognition for the Bulldogs were senior defensive end Chris Marzotto, senior linebacker Mike Marzotto and junior placekicker Jordan Quiroz. Chris Marzotto was selected to the All-PFL team for the third consecutive year. He was a first team all-league pick in both 2005 and 2006. Mike Marzotto earned second team honors for the second straight year and Quiroz earned second team recognition after being an honorable mention pick last year. League co-champ San Diego and Morehead State each had nine first team selections and five second team picks, while league co-champ Dayton had seven first team players and three second team members. Drake had three first team players and four second team picks, Davidson had two players on the first team and four on the second, Valparaiso had one first team player and two second team selections, and Jacksonville had two second team players. Chris Marzotto, who missed two Butler games with injury, finished with two quarterback sacks and five tackles for loss in 2007. He had 18 total tackles in nine contests. Mike Marzotto, who also battled injuries in 2007, finished as Butler's fourth-leading tackler with 40 total stops. He had two quarterback sacks and three tackles for loss. Quiroz was Butler's second-leading scorer with 49 points. He ranked third in the PFL in field goals (0.89), fourth in the league in kick scoring (5.4 ppg) and sixth in field goal percentage (61.5%)..
Dayton quarterback Kevin Hoyng was chosen by league coaches as the PFL Offensive Player of the Year, while defensive end Eric Bakhtiari of San Diego was named Defensive Player of the Year. Defensive back Joe Castaneda of Dayton was chosen Freshman of the Year, and Mike Kelly of Dayton was named Coach of the Year. |
